“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” C.S. Lewis
Our government is acting like a teenager with their first credit card. Are they really so short-sighted to not see the repercussions for spending money we don’t have? It’s frustrating to be working 40 hrs and more each week for very little pay to chip away at my student loan debt, while these power hungry turds just keep throwing money away. Don’t be fooled, they aren’t actually just so concerned with global warming, or the poor, that money is an afterthought. The lower class that live from check to check from welfare are back in slavery (whether they’re black or not). This country tells them all over the tv, radio, and billboards what they need to be happy, and that’s what they spend their checks on. Giving them a crappy education in the large public schools, and then offering them a low check for pretending to apply at different businesses is really just giving them rope to hang themselves. The worst thing you can do for someone in debt is give them opportunity for more debt. I saw it all the time working for UPS, where these people sit at home ordering stuff off QVC and HSN, not even leaving the house to get food. The apartments all looked the same. A large couch on one wall, with a large television on the opposite wall. I couldn’t tell if there was any more furniture. If there was, it was hiding under the unopened UPS boxes, and the rancid pizza and chinese debris. They are prisoners to their own homes, only freed when they are finally taken to a hospital when their organs start shutting down from being so overweight. Then begins a new opportunity for us to spend money on them at a whole new level. Working at Mother Frances, I get to see this side of it a lot as well. The government isn’t so dumb to really think that throwing money at the poor is the best solution. They are simply dead set on expanding government control. I know that paying teachers more and taking welfare away isn’t really possible at this point, but I would really like to see us start moving the right direction. There is evidence that global warming is not even an issue, and never was. There is also, obviously, a very large opposition in our country for health care reform. Now guess what two things the liberal con artists are most concerned with passing through. My bad Obama, I thought you were elected to serve the county and represent the people. Mandating what we need and passing stuff because we’re too dumb to know what’s good for us is starting to sound a little bit undemocratic. It’s becoming obvious to me that this government is trying to gain power however they can, and we no longer have conservatives on the other side balancing it out. Sure, we’ve been getting republicans in office, but I no longer consider republican and conservative to be interchangeable words. The United States citizens need to start holding politicians accountable. What sense does it make for the people that spend all of our tax dollars to not even pay taxes themselves? They are so delusional that they actually think that being overpaid somehow means that they’re special and above these taxes that are meant for the common peasants. We, as voters, can’t just sit around complaining and expect results. Don’t wait to act until they try to take your gun or whatever freedom you’ll cling to last. I don’t know if I’m saying we should threaten secession, though I don’t think that’s a bad start. We do, though, need to start voting intelligently, and not re-elect deceitful vermin who cheat their way to the top. If someone takes office by promising one thing, but once in office practices a whole different set of ideals (sound familiar?), we need to get rid of them. No, not assassinate, impeach. Do it the right way. We don’t have to make ourselves into the bad guys, and give the media reason to call us a mob or anything. People just need to realize that allowing people to say anything they want to get votes, and not fully expecting them to carry out their promises just means that we’ll have no idea what their real agenda is once in office. Not holding politicians accountable is how things spiral out of control in a hurry. History is a valuable class, not as much because it really matters the names and exact dates associated with the past. It’s valuable in that it teaches us what warning signs we should be watching for that other societies missed in the past, resulting in their downfall. We do still live in the best country on earth, don’t get me wrong. But don’t be so naive to think that we no longer have to fight for it domestically.
Well, I see you really disagree with the practices of the republican party, but they’re not all bad…
The unfortunate truth is that the majority of the population are uneducated and uninformed. That’s why our politicians are able to take advantage of their positions. It’s depressing to look at it this way, but the powers that be are above the laws and practices that they have put into place. It’s not right, it’s not fair but it’s reality.
More or less I agree with you. The only problem is that unless you have the money (or the influence of a special interest group) our “representatives” don’t really care what you have to say. We don’t live in a democracy, we live in a democratic republic. Perhaps if we were able to vote on important federal issues like we can with local bills things wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe if the general population had a real voice our representatives would have to listen. But now we have an under qualified administration that got elected off of pure hype.
The REAL power in this country lies with celebrity. They have the loudest voice and the exposure to be seen and heard by the masses. Those same uneducated and uninformed majorities hang on their every word. I listen to rap music and watch professional wrestling, but I know that the proposed health care reform is a disaster waiting to happen. Oh well, end rant…
Freedom is obtained via self-discipline. Structure helps one obtain freedom. However many Americans wrongly believe Its obtained through living without rules and laws in some isolated existance apart from society and the bonds with ones fellow man. The dark side of freedom is license. Doing whatever you want without regard for society or others.
Every moment is in fact spent in relationship with ones country and fellow man. Theres no escaping that fact.
